The WVU Teaching and Learning Center supports faculty members and instructors who would like to explore aspects of their teaching as a community. See below for the most recent calls.


Teaching Challenges and Opportunities 

West Virginia University (Morgantown)

A group for discussion, support and idea sharing will meet in the Teaching and Learning Center’s Evansdale location. Framed as an informal conversation around “Teaching Challenges and Opportunities,” this is a group that is all about sharing our teaching stories (both challenging and uplifting) and receiving advice, feedback and scholarly teaching resources. We will compile our teaching tips and links to resources in a knowledge sharing document. (Due to the nature of our conversations, this group is not open to students and TAs.)



Fall SoTL Writing Group 

West Virginia University (Morgantown)

Are you working on a scholarly project related to your teaching, or would you like to start one? Join faculty from the Writing Studio and the Teaching and Learning Center for a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Writing (SoTL) Group!

Each session will be 90 minutes in length and open with faulty sharing a success and a challenge. After dedicated writing time, faculty commit to their writing goals for the following session.



Care: Faculty Learning Community

West Virginia University (Morgantown)

The Care: FLC aims to provide educators with a supportive space to discuss the emotional labor of teaching and a tool kit for navigating discussions with students about mental health. 

Throughout the Fall 2026 semester, members of the learning community will work towards a certificate in Mental Health First Aid. We will come together to discuss and reflect on what we’ve learned, how to apply it in practice, and how to best support ourselves and each other as we navigate these emotionally challenging conversations.

Join fellow WVU faculty to build meaningful connections, explore Morgantown, and strengthen your sense of belonging as a Mountaineer through shared experiences and community.

PEP: Peer Exchange on Pedagogy Roundtable

WVU Institute of Technology (Beckley)

This collaborative space is designed for faculty to share teaching ideas, discuss challenges, and exchange strategies to strengthen our teaching practice. Faculty do not have to join the learning community and can attend any session they wish. The roundtable will meet in a different location each month. 

The roundtable will meet on the Third Tuesday of each month from 1:00–1:50 p.m. All faculty are welcome, and participation is conversational rather than presentation based. Participants are encouraged to share what has worked well (and not so well) in their courses.


Community on High-Impact Teaching

WVU Potomac State College (Keyser)

Faculty who are interested in exploring a strategy, tackling a challenge, or investigating a question related to their teaching practice are encouraged to consider this opportunity. The goal of this group is to identify meaningful classroom practices that yield student engagement, enhance opportunities for interacting with material, and support learning. While faculty are welcome to explore strategies that meet the needs of a variety of disciplines and subject matters, the goal of this community is not to redesign an entire course, but rather to be intentional about designing opportunities for learning. 


Plan-Do-Study-Act Cohort

WVU Institute of Technology (Beckley)

The PDSA cohort is a community of instructors at WVU Tech who are making small, incremental changes to their teaching and documenting their students’ outcomes using an improvement science technique called Plan-Do-Study-Act. A kick-off meeting, a community check-in meeting, and a wrap-up meeting will be scheduled during fall semester based on the group’s availability. Customized one-on-one meetings will be scheduled throughout the semester based on your availability.
