Graduate Service Assistant; Teaching and Learning Center
The Teaching and Learning Center is seeking a Graduate Service Assistant for the 2025-2026 academic year. This nine-month appointment includes a tuition waiver and stipend in the amount of $18,000. Note: Graduate assistantship appointments in the Teaching and Learning Center require approval from your dean. Graduate students who meet the preferred qualifications, but do not qualify for a tuition waiver, may inquire about the possibility of an hourly graduate student appointment. Duties
The Graduate Service Assistant will impact teaching at WVU by...
- Providing support during Teaching and Learning Center events, including event registration, coordinating meals and refreshments, parking reservations, preparation of event materials in print and online formats, and preparing our spaces and event signage.
- Providing post-event support and educational material development support including, but not limited to, captioning of recorded sessions for accessibility compliance (training will be provided), setup of basic video equipment (training will be provided), and simple editing of video clips (training will be provided).
- Contributing to scholarly teaching by: 1) Developing and leading an educational development event, such as a talk, workshop, or community of practice; or 2) Developing and disseminating a teaching conference presentation or teaching practitioner manuscript on an evidence-based practice.
- Supporting scholarly teaching projects including confidential handling of participant data, assigning pseudonyms, preparing transcripts of recorded interviews with the aid of speech-to-text technology (training will be provided), and carefully following research protocols for file management and handling of participant data as approved by IRB.
- Assisting with data analysis, literature review, and preparation of manuscripts as scholarly teaching projects reach maturity.
- Assisting in the development of course materials for the Certificate in University Teaching.
- Serving as a student representative on Teaching and Learning Center search committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current CITI certificate: Social and Behavioral Responsible Conduct of Research (Basic Course)
- Current CITI certificate: Social & Behavioral Research Investigators 5-year, Human Subject Research (Basic Course)
- Current graduate student in good standing at West Virginia University
- Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis
Preferred qualifications
- Certificate in University Teaching (completed or currently in progress)
- Interest in the field of educational development and Scholarship of Teaching
- Background within the broad field of education (e.g., undergraduate or graduate teaching assistant, K-12 teaching experience, or other experience in higher education)
