The WVU Teaching and Learning Center and the Office of the Provost held the first annual Scholarly Teaching Conference at West Virginia University from May 13-14, 2026. The two-day event provided faculty, instructors, staff, and students across all WVU campuses the opportunity to showcase their teaching practices and to learn from others. Opening Keynote: Nancy Ruzycki
Beyond the Prompt: Building Critical Thinking in Students with AI
Nancy Ruzycki is an Instructional Professor at the University of Florida where
she teaches experiential learning and researches the teaching and learning
of complex domain content. She has received over 14 million dollars in funding
for her work. Ruzycki holds a PhD in Solid State Physics from Tulane University.
Her recent works include curriculum design and K12 outreach for artificial
intelligence and machine learning.
Thursday Morning Plenary: Lisa Clark
Reframing Bloom’s for the Age of AI: Designing learning for human judgment and insight
Lisa Clark is Associate Vice President of Academic Transformation at Blackboard and
a recognized thought leader on the future of learning in the AI era. Named one
of the Top 50 Voices to Follow in Higher Education for 2026, she focuses on connecting
learning science, emerging technologies, and institutional strategy to help organizations
redesign learning for a rapidly evolving digital world. Dr. Clark serves on the
Board of Directors of the United States Distance Learning Association and speaks
internationally on AI, pedagogy, and learning transformation.

AI and the Future of Education
Greg Kessler has published extensively and delivered invited talks around the world.
He is a professor of Innovative Learning Design & Technology in the Educational
Studies department at Ohio University. His research addresses technology, teaching,
learning, culture and language with an emphasis on teacher preparation and curricular
design.
