Course re/Design Studio

The Course re/Design Studio is a two-day signature program from the WVU Teaching and Learning Center. Instructors work diligently on their course in a structured studio environment as they are guided through a series of activities, tasks, and opportunities for feedback. We will use the Backward Design framework to reimagine our approach to courses that are in need of revision. (Those tasked with creating brand new courses are also welcome to apply.)

If you groan over the mention of Bloom’s Taxonomy and the thought of writing a new set of learning objectives doesn’t appeal to you, we’ll invite you to explore less familiar taxonomies (such as Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning) that may better serve your needs and approach to instruction.

While the aim of this program is to support those who are in need of a substantial revision of an existing course, participants may select either a course in need of a redesign or a brand new course. The Course re/Design Studio supports participants through the creation of course learning outcomes, student assessment and grading criteria, and sequencing of instruction for the semester -- ensuring each piece of the course is aligned for student success.

We take a studio approach to our program, meaning that participants will benefit from both structured activities and time for individual work. Participants leave with a syllabus and a course map of planned activities. This is a great way to get a jump start on your course for a future semester. One-on-one consultations will be made available after the program has concluded for those who would like continued support.
