Thank you for your interest in the Scholarly Teaching Conference at West Virginia University . The aim of this conference is to host a space for faculty members, instructors, instructional support staff, and graduate students across WVU’s campuses to exchange information on effective teaching practices and original research on teaching and learning in education. The conference is sponsored by the WVU Teaching and Learning Center and the Office of the Provost.
2027 Conference
New friends and colleagues from the state of West Virginia and the surrounding region attended our 2026 conference and expressed interest in their future involvement. We have responded to this educational development need by making the 2027 call for proposals open to the higher education community throughout the state and region.
There is no registration cost to attend the Scholarly Teaching Conference in 2027. We hope to keep the size of the conference manageable – while providing a quality experience for those in attendance – so we can continue to offer this conference at no cost to attendees. The WVU Teaching and Learning Center and many of its events are supported in part by a grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. Funds are managed by the WVU Foundation. Chartered in 1954, the WVU Foundation is the nonprofit organization that receives and administers private donations on behalf of the University.

Mission and Vision
The Scholarly Teaching Conference is a place to learn from one another. It is also a place where you can learn about the conference proposal process, conference registration process, and the norms and etiquette of conference attendance and participation. We welcome proposals from graduate students, contract instructors, instructional support staff, and those who have never presented at a teaching conference before.
2027 Conference Mission
- Host a scholarly, free conference experience in an era of budget cuts and decreased access to quality educational development opportunities.
- Disseminate education research and evidence-based teaching practices – in a public forum for dialogue and knowledge sharing – with the goal of improving teaching for student learning.
- Publish a peer-reviewed conference proceedings as open access scholarship to extend knowledge sharing after the conference has concluded.
- Provide structure and scaffolds throughout the proposal call and peer review process by modeling conference norms and etiquette.
2027 Conference Vision
- Create a space for networking and the exchange of information and ideas to renew and rejuvenate teaching practice.
- Increase skillsets and self-efficacy in responding to calls for proposals, navigating the peer review process, and integrating reviewer feedback.
- Position conference presenters as teacher-scholars as they continue to build upon their scholarly works at regional, national, and international conferences on teaching or academic journals on teaching and learning.
